The Les Follatères nature reserve offers a grandiose landscape that forms the bend of the Rhône.
Les Follatères nature reserve
The area is subject to the continental and lemanique climate, a true natural paradise rich in various and rare animal and plant species. It is visited every year not only by many hikers, but also by scientists and university students.
About 500 hectares of meadows, rocks and dry forests extend here between Dorénaz and Fully. At the end of January, when Switzerland suffers from winter frosts and the ski season in the ski resorts, the first bulbocodes bloom in the Les Follatères nature reserve. From February onwards, the flowers follow in quick succession and reach their peak towards the end of spring, to the song of the nightingales. Then follow the golden tones of summer, drowned in the chirping of cicadas. Autumn brings further sensations: symphony of autumn colours, scent of a crushed hyssop plant, dance of birds of prey during migration…

Special wildlife
Many species can be seen in the Les Follatères nature reserve. The dry slopes are traversed by swarms of butterflies: swallowtail, apollo, brimstone, clouded yellow, map, white admiral, etc. The meadows are home to threatened bird species in Europe: the treecreeper, the black redstart, the spotted flycatcher, but also buzzards or kestrels. The high-altitude pastures are home to all the alpine birds: the wheatear, the alpine accentor, the meadow pipit, the yellow-billed chough or the hooded crow. Chamois and ibex, golden eagles, partridges, hares, lynx, eagle owls,…
