The Les Follatères nature reserve offers a grandiose landscape that forms the bend of the Rhône.
Les Follatères nature reserve
Under the influence of the continental and lemanique climates, a true paradise of nature, this place is rich in various and rare animal and plant species. It is visited annually not only by many hikers, but also by scientists and university students.
About 500 hectares of meadows, rocks and dry forests extend here between Dorénaz and Fully. As early as the end of January, when Switzerland is under the frost of winter and the ski season is in full swing in the resorts, the first bulbocodes bloom in the Les Follatères nature reserve. From February onwards, the flowers follow in quick succession and reach their peak towards the end of spring, to the song of the owls. Then follow the golden tones of summer, drowned in the chirping of the cicadas. The late season brings other sensations: symphony of autumn colors, scent of crushed hyssop, ballet of birds of prey during migration…

Special wildlife
Many species are visible in the Les Follatères nature reserve. The dry slopes are crossed by butterflies: Flambé voilier, Grand Apollon, Aurore, Citron de Provence, Damier, Sylvandre, etc. The meadows are home to bird species threatened with extinction in Europe: Le Torcol fourmilier, la Pie-grièche écorcheur, le Traquet tarier, but also Common Buzzards or Falcons. The high-altitude pastures are home to all the alpine birds: le Traquet motteux, le Merle de roche, la Niverolle, le Chocard à bec jaune or le Crave à bec rouge. The chamois and ibex, eagles, partridges, hares, lynxes, owls…
