The village of Gerzensee is located on the southern slope of the Belpberg, between Aare and Gürbetal, 18 km from Bern, 13 km from Thun. The special location with wonderful views of the mountain giants, Thuner and Gerzensee, as well as the mild climate (formerly called the Bernese Riviera) makes Gerzensee an extremely popular place to live. After Gerzensee was originally almost a purely farming village, there are still about 36 managed homesteads today. The building boom of the late sixties and seventies brought numerous single-family homes. Most residents work in Bern, Thun, or the surrounding area and commute every day. In Gerzensee, there are about 45 mostly smaller businesses. It is worth noting that the businesses provide a wide range of services (grocery stores, restaurants, carpentry and joinery businesses, cheese dairies, hairdressing salons, plumbing/heating businesses, etc., notary, bank branches, engineering office, medical practice, and practices for natural healing, etc.). Children attend the primary school in Gerzensee, the secondary school including the secondary department in Wichtrach. The gymnasium is attended either in Bern or in Thun.
