From October 1, 2025, or by arrangement, we are renting this loft apartment on the ground floor in the former silk spinning mill Ottikon.
Where 140 years ago numerous silk weaving machines roared daily, today unique loft apartments in an exciting industrial flair have emerged in a quiet and nature-friendly environment. By using various materials, a bridge is built between industrial history and modern living culture.
Not only the interior architectural mix of modernly furnished kitchens in top standard and comfortable bathrooms, but also the historical elements such as the cast-iron columns in all living rooms will make the hearts of future tenants beat faster.
The apartment includes an additional storage room as well as a cellar and an attic compartment.
Outdoor parking spaces can be rented for CHF 50.00 per month.
History
History
Johannes Dürsteler (1814-1881) bought the former cotton spinning mill in Unterottikon from Jakob Stauber on May 5, 1873. Here he found the necessary space for his silk weaving machines, which had previously been housed in the hall of the Rössli tavern. The operation for the production of fine silk fabrics began to flourish. The water that provided the driving force was dammed in the valley below Oberottikon and channeled to the factory turbine. Women operated and maintained the machines.
The raw silk was delivered in 60 kg heavy bales from Zurich. In the Ferggstube it was processed and wound onto skeins. Further work was done in Wetzikon, at the company's headquarters, which Johannes Dürsteler named JDEWE in reference to his initials and the location. From there, the company supplied a wide area with the finest silk fabrics and women's stockings.
Transport connections
Close to nature. And also to the centers.
Thanks to the dense bus network with connections to the S-Bahn - usually every fifteen minutes on weekdays - you can reach Zurich by public transport in just over thirty minutes. The bus ride to Wetzikon and Uster with their shopping centers takes just six minutes. From the S-Bahn stations in these places as well as in nearby Rapperswil SG, the routes open up in a reasonable time in all directions of Switzerland.
The road network is also well developed: The Forch motorway takes you to the economic, shopping, educational, and cultural metropolis of Zurich in less than thirty minutes. The drive to Winterthur, the second largest city in the canton, via the A53 motorway also takes a short time. A number under which there is a lot of connection - namely to the A1 towards Zurich, St. Gallen, Basel, Bern, Lucerne, Geneva, and other Swiss cities.
