Teufen, the most tax-friendly village in Appenzell Ausseroden.
Teufen is one of the most beautiful villages in the green pre-Alps world. The high trail "Über die Eggen", which can be reached from the village center in a quarter of an hour, offers a distant view on clear days all the way to the Black Forest, to the Urschweiz and to Vorarlberg. Over gentle hills, where farmers still live in original Alemannic scattered settlements, the Säntis raises its crown-topped head. Teufen is a paradise for hikers!
A special adornment of the stately community with over 6,000 inhabitants is the village center around the Protestant church. The local family Grubenmann produced eight significant master builders. Johann Ulrich Grubenmann (1709-1783), the builder of the charming village church, gained worldwide fame in the construction of covered wooden bridges. The Grubenmann collection at Zeughausplatz offers insights into the work of this master builder family in its museum.
