Benken is a political municipality in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen in the See-Gaster electoral district. It is located about 5 km southeast of the eastern end of Lake Zurich.
Benken was the main town of the former district of Gaster. Benken is located in the Linth area, bordering the canton of Schwyz (Reichenburg) and the canton of Glarus (Bilten, municipality of Glarus Nord). Accordingly, there is a three-canton corner at the A3. The local mountain of Benken is the Benkner Büchel.
Outside the city, Benken is rich in agricultural zones. The main road called "Benknerstrasse" connects the village with Reichenburg and Kaltbrunn. This is served by the post bus line Reichenburg-Benken-Kaltbrunn-Uznach. Benken has a train station on the Rapperswil-Glarus-Linthal line of the Swiss Federal Railways.
