Location and accessibility
The mountain village of Blitzingen is located on the right side of the Goms valley at 1,357 m above sea level - an idyllic place in the upper Rhône valley. Blitzingen is very well accessible by rail and road throughout the year and is also located on the national bike route No. 1. The major centers of Upper Valais, Brig and Visp, are about 30 to 45 minutes by car. Goms is also accessible year-round through the Furka tunnel (car transport at Furka), and the Alpine passes Grimsel, Furka, and Nufenen lead directly into Goms.
The sunny high valley is an excellent cross-country skiing area. The Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn with stations in almost every Gommer village allows for varied cross-country skiing tours. You can also experience nature in silence with snowshoes or on extensive winter hikes.
The nearest larger shops, doctors, and pharmacies are located in the neighboring settlements of Münster or in the municipality of Fiesch.
In a scenic elevated position, the elegant 3.5-room apartment is located on the 3rd floor of the 1990-built aparthotel "Castle", about 2 kilometers from the Blitzingen train station.

General information about Goms
The municipality of Goms was formed on January 1, 2017, from the merger of five municipalities. About 1,240 residents (as of January 31, 2019) live in the 13 villages Niederwald, Ammern, Bodme, Gadme, Wiler, Blitzingen, Selkingen, Biel, Ritzingen, Gluringen, Reckingen, Münster, and Geschinen. Each village has its own individual charm, its own history, and interesting personalities.
Blitzingen is first mentioned in documents in 1347. In September 1932, a major fire destroyed large parts of the village, which was rebuilt in the Valais style within a year. On January 1, 2017, the previous municipal community of Blitzingen merged with the municipal communities of Grafschaft, Münster-Geschinen, Niederwald, and Reckingen-Gluringen to form the new municipality of Goms. The former municipality includes, in addition to Blitzingen itself, the formerly independent villages of Bodme, Wiler, Ammern, and Gadmen until 1848.
