General information about Fiesch
The municipality of Fiesch - the gateway to the Goms - lies on the banks of the Weisswasser, which springs from the Fiescher glacier. In the 19th century, tourist development began in Fiesch thanks to the panorama on the Eggishorn, the Märjelensee and the nearby Jungfrau region. Since then, the tourist centre of the valley has exerted a great attraction on athletes and mountain lovers.
The municipality is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch. From the summit of the Eggishorn (2'927 m above sea level), there is a magnificent view of the entire length of the Aletsch Glacier, the smaller Fiescher Glacier and the mighty peaks of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, all the way to the Matterhorn.
The Gogwärgi day-care centre and the Untergoms school offer midday meals with subsequent playtime or supervised study at the Fiesch schoolhouse for all children from kindergarten to 3rd grade.
