General information about Zeneggen
Zeneggen is picturesque on a sunny viewpoint terrace above the Rhone and Visp valleys at the foot of the Moosalp. The village is surrounded by an impressive high mountain landscape: To the north, the majestic Bietschhorn, to the south, the Mischabel chain with its four-thousanders, and to the east, the upper Rhone Valley up to the Furka Pass. The municipal area extends from the banks of the Vispa at about 670 m above sea level to a height of 1,720 m above sea level.
As various archaeological finds show, the history of Zeneggen as a settlement area dates back to the early Bronze Age. The municipality possesses one of the most valuable near-natural cultural landscapes in Switzerland, an "ecological hotspot".
Zeneggen can be reached from Visp in 15 minutes by car and in about 20 minutes by post bus. In addition to regular public transport connections to the valley, further tourist post bus services are operated in summer to Moosalp and in winter to the ski area in Bürchen.
Zeneggen offers relaxation for the senses, with its extensive marked hiking trail network, from short walks to varied day tours in different altitudes and landscape forms. The nearly 350 inhabitants maintain a harmonious interaction with each other, and many things are done in a special and different way than usual.
