Geography
Martigny-Croix (or La Croix) probably owes its name to its geographical position at the crossroads of international routes to France (via the Col de La Forclaz) and to Italy (via the Col du Grand-Saint-Bernard).
History
Martigny-Combe, like the other Valais municipalities, experienced a really significant growth only from the fifties, during the acceleration of tourism development, the boom in industry and construction and especially the development of new communication routes, including the road to La Forclaz from 1955 and that of Grand-Saint-Bernard in 1964.
Martigny-Combe had: 982 inhabitants in 1970, 1035 in 1980, 1261 in 1990, 1778 in 2000, 1943 in 2005, 2236 in 2010, 2351 in 2020 and 2346 on 31 December 2021.
Population
The evolution of the population of the Commune is significant and the causes are multiple. We can highlight the bucolic and diversified landscape, the tranquility, the proximity of the city of Martigny, the municipal services, the dynamism, the fiscal attraction, etc. However, population growth is relentless and infrastructure must keep pace with this evolution and adapt continuously.
