Villa Pierina is born as the highest expression of those who have succeeded in life. In the early 1900s, Francesco Avanzini, a successful emigrant from Curio in Argentina, decided to have Villa Pierina built. The villa was meant to tangibly represent "the spirit of return" to the homeland of those who, through emigration to Argentina, had achieved well-being and status.
At that time, architect Giuseppe Bordonzotti, a key figure in the Ticino Liberty style of Eclecticism, was contacted to take care of the project. An intense exchange between Ticino and Buenos Aires of projects, variants, observations, etc. began. During that phase, the client's desire for the building to reflect "American habits" often clashed with architect Bordonzotti's desire to emphasize local values. Finally, in 1909, the construction of Villa Pierina began. Completed in 1910, the villa takes its name from Francesco Avanzini's daughter. Later purchased by a large German family, the building was entirely and finely restored with noble materials, restoring its due "grandeur".
A prestigious Liberty building from the early 1900s and cataloged as a cultural asset, Villa Pierina dominates the village of Curio with its regal elegance. Completely renovated in 2012 using the most noble and luxurious materials, the villa, with its four floors characterized by large and bright spaces, is well suited as a refined representative residence.
High ceilings, large chandelier lamps, walnut herringbone parquet, inlaid fireplaces, noble materials, internal elevator, frescoed facades as originally, are just some of the valuable elements of Villa Pierina. Its southeast exposure, also thanks to the large terraces, offers a wonderful view of nature, the village, and Lake Lugano. The park hosts a large heated swimming pool with a sunbathing area, and the villa is accessed through two side avenues that once again emphasize the majesty of this magnificent historic residence.
Today, Villa Pierina awaits a new owner to live in it and continue its story.
