Location and area

Maienfeld is located in the Bündner Herrschaft and is therefore one of the sought-after residential communities in Graubünden. Surrounded by vineyards and nature, the town is still central and accessible; the cantonal capital Chur can be reached by car in 20 minutes, and the city of Zurich in 75 minutes.

Today, around 3,000 residents live in the historic town, of which about 20% are citizens. The main sectors of employment are viticulture, agriculture, small and medium-sized businesses, some shops with major brands, and of course tourism. Maienfeld is also home to many people who work outside the town. The relatively high level of recognition is due to the Blauburgunder wine and today also to the various specialties, the horse, through international horse races and jumping competitions, as well as of course Heidi, the world-famous children's story by Johanna Spyri. The cultural life in Maienfeld is supported and shaped by around 50 active local associations. Maienfeld is a school location for secondary school students from Fläsch, Jenins, and Maienfeld and is home to the educational center for forestry and the school for design (ibW).
