The property offers extraordinarily high privacy on a sunny hillside location. A short path leads from the road, where the covered parking spaces are located, upwards to a small area. Here the space widens, the view sweeps far into the valley. Apart from the ?Scuol Palace? about 50 meters away, there are no houses in the surrounding area. The Inn River flows about 100 meters away. The magnificent Lower Engadine nature begins right on the doorstep.
Inhabit a church with loft character as a single-family house - and you can accommodate your guests in the church tower! That's how extravagant living works.
The approximately 8-meter-high church nave captivates with a generous, open floor plan and offers plenty of space for the dining and living area. This extends over a large part of the church space and also includes the former choir, raised by a few steps. Through the large arched window at the rear of the choir, you reach the large terrace.
Almost half of the church space is covered by a gallery. Below it are the spacious kitchen, a bathroom, the entrance hall and the cloakroom. On the upper floor of the gallery is the master bedroom. A toilet and another bathroom are located on the ground floor of the church tower, which is directly connected to the church nave, completing the ground floor. Above is the ?tower apartment?. On the 1st and 2nd floors and in the attic, small bedrooms or lounges can be set up.
The Nairs Church was built in 1882 by order of the Archbishop of Canterbury to care for the many English spa guests in the Lower Engadine. It remained in operation until the beginning of the Second World War. After secularization, the architect Knapp restored the church and converted it into a residential building. Since 1985, the current owner has used the building as a holiday home and conference venue and has constantly renovated and modernized it since then.
The Nairs Church is located about 1.5 km outside Scuol in a wooded area and near the ?Scuol Palace? hotel located below on the river. In just 3 minutes by car you can reach the mountain railways of the Scuol ski area and the Scuol/Tarasp train station, and in about 5 minutes you are in the heart of Scuol with its many shops, restaurants and bars. The golf course in Vulpera is about 1 km away, and the outdoor pool is another 300 meters away. The distance to the schools in the center of Scuol is about 3 km, the travel time by bike is about 12 minutes.
Thanks to the tectonic peculiarity of the ?Lower Engadine Window?, over 20 mineral springs bubble up from the rock in Scuol-Tarasp. With the commissioning of the Tarasp spa in 1846, more and more distinguished guests found their way to the Lower Engadine. The house offers 300 guest beds, the latest comfort and the glamorous halls and salons that ladies and gentlemen of the world need for their appearance.
Encouraged by the success of the spa, the plan for the construction of a representative drinking hall was pushed forward. The architect Bernhard Simon realized in the years 1875 and 1876 an elongated arcade with shops arranged on the mountain side, large arched windows to the Inn and, as a crowning glory, an octagonal, massively built rotunda with festive columns on a high marble pedestal, where the three springs Bonifacius, Emerita and Lucius bubble up from the wall.
The English Nairs Church completed the offer for the predominantly English guests from 1882 onwards, who should lack nothing. With the great economic crisis after the Second World War, the splendor of the spa gradually faded. The buildings of the former spa are now classified as a national monument and serve, among other things, as an artist's house and exhibition spaces for many artists.
