The Casa Rieder could be better conveyed spatially and in terms of ambiance through film than prose. But read on! I know the house well, having spent days and nights as a guest in it. We walk along the Riva dal Garavéll by the lakeshore to the narrow old alley that leads us directly to the house: immersing oneself in a bygone world feels good. The large, listed ensemble stands high and free above the paved, semi-private square next to the medieval chapel. Solidarity. Silence. The Casa is surrounded by trees and bushes. The hillside location in the middle of the old Morcote allows views of the village, and from the private floor, also of the lake, Monte San Giorgio (UNESCO World Heritage) and the mountain range of Monte Generoso. In total, there are three levels with a guest apartment providing a living area of just under 400 square meters on a plot of 1000 m2. Granite steps lead to the main entrance on the first floor. The green entrance door with whimsically wavy metal sheet sets the tone for the elegant serenity that envelops you immediately.
Paradisiacal since 1550
In 1550, the patrician family Restelli took up residence in Morcote. In the 18th century, the extension was built. Until the end of the 19th century, the house was inhabited by the heirs of the Restelli family. Alberto Rieder took it over in the 1940s and converted it into his residence with a well-visited icon museum. From then on, it was referred to as Casa Rieder. In 2017, it was painstakingly transformed into the main residence by the current owners. The village image of Morcote is federally protected. The immediate surroundings remain as they are: almost too beautiful to be true.
Living culture of Milanese architect Luciano Giorgi
Rooms have been created, a place that breathes inner peace and an effortless grandeur. In exchange with the village and nature. The ideal vision of a comfortable nest with a cosmopolitan touch and enough wall space for the art collection of the builders has been surpassed.
What makes a good life: scenic tour in Casa Rieder
The choreography that guides us through all dining, cooking, living spheres, recreation, and garden spaces, as well as connecting all three floors, is precisely thought out and comfortable to inhabit. The resulting feeling of living: animated and generous. The architect knows how to spatially and functionally organize a good life. Casa Rieder offers a good life, certo.
Reference for the ambiance in Casa Rieder
Atmospheric density, like in a film by director Luca Quadagnino! The couple's demands with a second residence in Milan set the standard. The structure and ambiance of the interflowing, yet clearly defined spatial spheres were planned by the architect and materialized to a high standard. Similar to the romantic summer drama <
Light and colors
On the main floor, the mood is intimate, even festive. Targeted light makes art and furniture objects stand out. Warm oak parquet in the dining room, hallway, on the ground floor, as well as on the upper floor with the four bedrooms. There is enough space for the four adult children when they visit. Dark cast floors were chosen by Luciano Giorgi for the soggiorno. Dark stone slabs in the kitchen, terrace, and patio. Four fireplaces can be found in the coziest places – two in the living area, two in the private area. Various grays harmonize with the broad green palette: colors from lichens and moss to vibrant leaf green. Dark brown walls, earth and mud tones contribute to the characteristic intimacy in the house.
Personal Arcadia
The ancient Greeks regarded 'Arcadia' as a lost garden of Eden that grounds people. Intended as an invitation to turn to simplicity – nature. On the level of the second floor, the non-visible, poetic garden inspires reflection and togetherness. An old garden pavilion complements the harmonious setting. Here, time sometimes stands still.
