Locarno is located on the southern side of the Alps, on Lake Maggiore, also called Verbano. In 1996, the 5.5 km long Mappo-Morettina motorway tunnel was opened, directly connecting Tenero with the center of Locarno and significantly reducing traffic. The hill town of Monti della Ss. Trinità, about 400 m above sea level, offers very special conditions: it is cooler and airier here in summer and warmer in winter. In the past, the hill belonged to the citizens of Locarno, who spent their summers here. Agriculture was mainly carried out by mezzadri from the Valle Verzasca. The philosophical movement, whose followers later settled on Monte Verità, originated in the Monti della Ss. Trinità. The Collina-Alta hiking trail leads from Locarno-Monti via Orselina, Brione to Contra and allows for a comfortable, safe hike of about 2 hours in nature. The path is therefore accessible to everyone.
