Brissago is a Swiss municipality of 1,769 inhabitants in the Canton of Ticino, in the district of Locarno. Brissago is located on the right bank of Lake Maggiore, on the border with Italy. The municipal territory includes the Brissago Islands which, thanks to their location, enjoy an excellent climate and mild temperatures that allow the growth of plants not suitable for the area; on one of them, in fact, there is a botanical garden. Brissago was subject to the dominion of Milan, especially during the rule of the Visconti. While Locarno had joined the Swiss Confederation in 1516, Brissago had several uncertainties and only on April 24, 1521, St. George's Day, decided to submit to the Swiss Cantons. The region enjoys good sunshine with a moderate number of annual precipitation, but with several windy days.
