The Emmenhof area in Derendingen has a turbulent history - a history that significantly shapes its present face. It began over 150 years ago with the founding of a cotton spinning mill on the Emmen Canal. Thus, the district became one of the most important locations of the early industrialization in the canton of Solothurn.

Even today, the Emmenhof, now embedded between residential neighborhoods and a local recreation area, conveys a typical industrial flair.
