Giumaglio is a small hamlet of the municipality of Maggia and has just over 200 inhabitants. Maggia is therefore the name of the municipality born on April 4, 2004, with the aggregation of Aurigeno, Coglio, Giumaglio, Lodano, Maggia, Moghegno, and Someo. It is 65% covered by forest, while the valley floor is characterized by the floodplain area of the Maggia River, which, in addition to being a well-known recreational area, has a unique naturalistic importance in Europe. In fact, in 1982, the stretch between Lodano and Riveo was included in the inventory of floodplain landscapes of international importance.
