The Follatères nature reserve offers a magnificent landscape drawing the bend of the Rhône.
Follatères nature reserve
Subject to the influences of the continental climate and the Léman climate, a true paradise of nature, this site is teeming with varied and uncommon animal and plant species. It is visited every year not only by many walkers but also by scientists and university students.
About 500 hectares of lawns, rocks, and dry forests extend here between Dorénaz and Fully. From the end of January, while Switzerland endures the winter chill and the ski season is in full swing in the resorts, the Follatères reserve sees its first Bulbocodes bloom. From February, the flowers succeed each other to reach their peak at the end of spring, in the song of nightingales. Then follow the golden tones of summer, drowned in the stridulation of cicadas. The late season brings even more sensations: symphony of autumn colors, scent of crushed hyssop, ballet of migrating raptors...

Particular fauna
Many species are visible in the Follatères reserve. The arid slopes are traversed by clouds of butterflies: Sailor Flambé, Great Apollo, Aurore, Provence Lemon, Damier, Sylvandre, etc. The mowed meadows shelter bird species threatened in Europe: The Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, the Red-backed Shrike, the Wheatear, but also common buzzards or kestrels. The high pastures host all the birds of the Alps: the Wheatear, the Rock Blackbird, the Nivernolle, the Yellow-billed Chough or the Red-billed Chough. Chamois and ibex, golden eagles, partridges, hares, lynxes, owls,...
