SITTING TO CONTEMPLATE THE FLOWER AND THE INFINITY
Philippe Robert
This poetic inscription, in German: <<Sitzend, um die Blume und die Unendlichkeit zu betrachten>>, on the binding beam above the upper floor refers to the contemplative mindset that shaped the work of an artist. Here, the painter Philippe Robert (1881–1930), known primarily for his depictions of nature and murals, built and lived from 1925 to 1930. Philippe Robert came from a renowned family of artists. His works are now exhibited, among others, in the New Museum Biel, which houses parts of the extensive collection of the Robert Foundation.
Philippe Robert had the property built in 1924 by the renowned Biel architect Karl Frey. The house, the studio, and the extensive garden have survived the times almost unchanged and testify in a unique way as a total work of art to the life and work of the painter Philippe Robert.
The high-quality interior is adorned with wooden decorations, inscriptions, a tiled stove, lamps, and wrought iron works. The house, with window frames made of solid limestone blocks from the Jura, the typical home style elements, inscriptions, and decorative balcony cutouts, as well as the park-like garden, are all listed as historical monuments.
The property, known as Villa-Robert in the village, is located in a sought-after residential area on the southern slope of Evilard. The location benefits from short walking distances to the village center, the funicular (to Biel), the daycare center, and the schools. The sunny and quiet location in close proximity to the forest and walking paths is ideal for active families who appreciate both the central and nature-close living environment.
Through the garden gate made of Jura limestone in the shape of an arch, you enter the impressive garden leading to the main entrance at the back of the four-story property.
The ground floor houses a generously designed living and dining area, which is adorned with fine wooden decorations and occupies almost the entire south side. From here, a wonderful view of the garden opens up. A historic, beautiful tiled stove sets a special accent. In addition, this floor offers a nice office with a view of the garden, another room with morning sun, a guest toilet, and the kitchen.
On the upper floor, there is the impressive and light-filled studio, connected to the bedroom by a double sliding door. A wonderful space to feel good, reflect, make music, and be creative. Adjacent is the stylish, whitewashed bathroom for dreaming, with a freestanding Victorian bathtub and windows above the washbasin. Especially from the balcony on this floor, you can enjoy a beautiful view all the way to the Alpine panorama.
Two more rooms and a second bathroom with shower/WC complete the generous space offering on this floor.
In the attic, a spacious, cozy attic room invites you to dream – a wonderful retreat. Roof windows provide plenty of daylight, while south-facing windows offer a spectacular panoramic view all the way to the Alpine chain.
Two attics and a practical storage room also provide ample storage space.
The spacious basement houses a natural cellar for storing wine and fresh food, another cellar room, a large laundry room, which also contains the heating technology of the newly installed district heating system, as well as a generous, heated multipurpose room. The heat distribution is done via radiators. The basement is accessible both from inside the house and via a separate outside entrance.
The original, romantic garden with a network of paths is terraced and divided with trimmed boxwood and various trees. This too is listed as a historical monument due to its splendor.
Idyllic seating areas and a garden pavilion offer space for relaxing, gardening, playing, and dreaming. The dreamlike location pampers you and your family with much peace and harmony with nature. Here you will quickly feel at home.
The property named L'Alouette impresses due to its excellent location with a view, unique architecture, park-like surroundings, and generous space offering. This exclusive property will also bring much joy to the next generation.
