General information about Gamsen The Upper Valais was once inhabited by the Uber, a tribe of Celts. The village of Gamsen has been continuously inhabited for about 3000 years. The Gamsen community was established in 1290 and merged with Glis in 1690. In 1972, the municipal community of Glis-Gamsen joined the city of Brig. Today, Gamsen is mainly considered an industrial area of Brig, with only the area along the Rhône being used industrially. The actual village is located about 200 meters away. The kindergarten is located in Brigerbad. Children are picked up in the morning by school bus and brought back home after classes. The orientation school and the gymnasium are located in Brig. Since the 2010/2011 school year, students from Gamsen and Brigerbad in grades 1 to 4 attend the lower level in Glis.
