To the east of the town of Martigny, on the southern slope of the Rhône valley, lies the municipality of Saxon, which consists of the village of the same name, the locality of Gottefrey, and eleven hamlets. Saxon borders the municipalities of Saillon, Riddes, Val de Bagnes, Martigny, and Fully. Thanks to this enclave, the municipality serves as an optimal starting point for excursions and outings to many centers in the Lower Valais. You can also reach wonderful destinations in the Upper Valais in less than an hour's drive, and the municipality is very well served by train and bus. Moreover, Saxon is an optimal place of residence, from where you can quickly reach the economic centers for work and retreat in the evening to tranquility.
Saxon is one of the largest fruit-growing municipalities in the canton and is particularly known for its production of apricots. Every two years, the municipality hosts the national apricot festival. The ruins of the Saxon castle, which hold rich historical significance, are another highlight. The St. Maurice chapel, in Romanesque and late Gothic style, is also worth a visit. Welcome to Saxon!
